Today, the semiconductor industry has become the leading manufacturing industry in terms of value added to the U.S. economy -- 20 percent larger than the next leading industry. SIA member companies comprise 90 percent of U.S.-based semiconductor production. Collectively, the chip industry employs a domestic workforce of more than 260,000 people.
